Logic - Operations

The traditional view of the operations role is to maximize the quantity of product produced We would argue that in a team- orientated firm the role is modified to work with the rest of the organization to maximize the long-term stream of profits associated with production.

We assume that the main functions of operations are to make production decisions relating to responsiveness, capacity, cost, and quality. These will be implemented in more basic tactical decisions such as number of people, training, salary level, machine capacity, maintenance, setup times, batch sizes, inspection, investment into quality systems and the like.
